Back in October I made the switch to sulphate free shampoo and have found that it really agrees with my hair – it helps my colour last longer, allows me to go an extra day between washes and is overall shinier and healthier. I scoured the shelves of Boots and The Body Shop (among others) and have tried out several different ones since then, but nothing was as good as the beloved Liz Earle offering. Until now.
I was checking out a 3 for 2 offer on Soap & Glory when I picked up their shampoo and was very surprised to see that it was in fact sulphate free! Naturally, I grabbed a bottle that day and couldn’t wait to put it to the test.
First things first let’s talk price. The Soap & Glory Glad Hair Day Shampoo is £5.50 for 250ml, whereas the Liz Earle shampoo is £10 for 200ml. Add to that the frequency of S&G being on 3 for 2 and the value for money is second to none. I don’t know of another sulphate free shampoo on the British market that’s offers such good value for money. They last for ages too, as a little goes a long way. Unlike some sulphate free shampoos, this one lathers up really nicely.
Scent-wise, I find the shampoo and partnering Glad Hair Day Conditioner to be intoxicating! They smell of a beautiful combination of peach and raspberry that I just can’t get enough of. Plus this lingers on my hair for a few hours after washing. Mmm…
As for the packaging, it’s cute and the tube is very practical. My one complaint about these products is that the design of the two could be a bit more distinctive, as I did once end up co-washing my hair when I grabbed the conditioner instead of the shampoo. Maybe if shampoo and conditioner were written a bit larger this would solve the issue, or I should pay more attention to what I’m picking up!
Both of these products do their respective jobs really well. The shampoo leaves my hair clean and shiny and the conditioner helps to pull out any knots and my hair is always soft after use. Since switching to the shampoo, I received a lot of compliments about how shiny my hair was, which prompted me to go back and buy another two tubes as well as the conditioner.
I also got my mum to try out the shampoo and she really likes it too and we have completely different hair types. Mine’s long, thick and curly, whereas mum’s is short, fine and straight. We both found that the shampoo allows us to go an extra day between washes compared to products containing sulphate. Before using the Soap & Glory one, my mum was using a sulphate based shampoo and had none of the awkward, greasy adjustment period which I experienced when changing over to The Body Shop’s sulphate free shampoo.
Overall, I absolutely adore these two products and I am positive that I have found an affordable sulphate free shampoo that I will be using for the foreseeable future. I’m not saying I wouldn’t test out another sulphate free shampoo, but right now I’m not going to try and find anymore. If you’re looking for a new shampoo and conditioner, then head to Boots as these are currently on 3 for 2!

I love Soap & Glory, I just wished they stocked it here in Australia! I have to buy mine on eBay or get my friends in England to bring it back when they visit!

Might have to give these a go, never been a fan of soap and glory – but these do sound good. I’ve currently fallen for the L’Oreal Hair Expertise Pure Colour ones which are sulphate and paraben free, which has even been keeping my blonde ombre the right colour without any specific blonde shampoo. When I bought them they were reduced to £3 normally £6, but have lasted me well over a month and I’m not even halfway through yet.
That body shop shampoo/conditioner still haunts me!

The body shop one was sooo bad for fall out! I think I tried the l’oreal ones, or it might have been a slightly different one from them because they claimed it was sulphate free but I didn’t think it was and it made me a greaseball! These S&G ones are by far the best I’ve had in the price bracket, lasted me a long time too. The Liz Earle one is great but so much more money x

They have quite a few variations in that range, but the pure colour are the only ones I’ve tried, I’m sure they did 2 versions of pure colour too, for thick or fine hair which is quite unusual. Adding the soap and glory ones to the list to try next! X

I used to love the thick hair version of the conditioner and used the shampoo and conditioner all the time. I found they lasted quite a long time, the smell is so good and lasts for me as well. My main problem was they’re never in stock near me. Next time I make a boots order I might give this non thick hair version a go as they stopped the other and now I’ve not got light blonde hair I don’t need the purple toned shampoo. This post has reminded me how good they are.
