I was lucky enough to get myself this bottle of foundation free on a promotion Smashbox were doing last Friday, where the first 20 people to their local Smashbox counter got a bottle of foundation just by showing that they liked their facebook page. How could I say no to that?!
I got the shade 1.1, which is the palest shade available. Although this wasn’t colour matched to me in store, it is the perfect shade for me as it blends well into my skin and helps to cover up some of my freckles. The swatch shown above is on my hand which is even paler than my face and also isn’t completely blended in.
The Studio Skin Foundation is £28, comes in a beautiful glass bottle with matte black pump and is very well reviews on the Smashbox website. I have only applied it with my fingers so far, but it is very easy to spread out and blend in. And boy is it long wearing! I previously used Smashbox Liquid Halo Foundation and would find that it melted off my face quite a lot by the end of a long day at work, but this doesn’t. Even though I could see how much better coverage I had, I was still surprised at how much foundation came off onto my cotton pads when taking this off for the first time. In fact, I had to use two to get it all off as there was so much product still on.
The formula of the Studio Skin is thicker than Liquid Halo and doesn’t contain any SPF, but it really does help with greasy skin and to cover up blemishes, freckles and scars. Despite being thicker, it doesn’t feel heavy on my skin. All in all, I am very pleased with this foundation and will happily keep using it. Do I think it’s worth £28? Well, if it lasts as long as my Liquid Halo (which I got in February and is still going), then yes!
In the picture above, I have the Studio Skin foundation on with powder over the top, as I wear it. You can still see some blemish marks because I am having seriously bad breakouts lately, but I also haven’t put any other concealer over them. What you can actually see here looks a lot better than my skin without the foundation on (I am really suffering with redness at the moment), but I think you’ll agree that it also doesn’t look like I’m wearing a thick layer of make up or that I look in any way orange.
All in all, this is a really great product from Smashbox and I am really pleased to have got a full sized bottle of this for free because I am going to keep using it!

How is your sulphate/silicone/paraben free hair care going?
Im thinking about going for it! I might get the Liz Earle Shampoo & Conditioner, but im a bit confused on what styling products to use 😖

Good although I don’t think I’ve found my perfect shampoo yet. I want to try the naked range that’s in boots! I’m currently using a tresemme heat protector and a silvikrin hair spray for styling and neither contain anything bad as far as I can see.
How much is Liz Earle shampoo?x

I read about the naked range online but couldnt find it through the boots app, i swear ive seen them in store though.
Liz earle shampoo or conditioner is £8.75 for 200ml. A bit pricey but not as pricey as living proof! Is that much more expensive than the body shop range? X

I know they’ve got them in my local store as I’ve looked at getting them before.
That is quite pricey! Body shop is £4.50 a bottle which is reasonable. However, I have seen a review of them that said they make a lot of hair come out in the shower, which I had just been putting down to washing my hair less often. I’ve got a bottle of loreal sulphate free shampoo that I haven’t really used yet that I’m going to start using properly to see if tbs shampoo is making me moult!
Overall though, switching to sulphate free has been great! Less hair washes, less colour fade and still got soft shiny hair! 😊 x

Some of the shampoos & conditioners ive been looking at are £20 each! I defo cant afford that, i may be able to stretch to the liz earle range tho lol
Is that loreal eversleek? Ive been talking to sone people on beauty forums about which sulphate free shampoo conditioner to go for and asked if the loreal one is good, reply was although its sulphate free it does includes silicones urgh!
Is your hair quite strong against straightening now too?
Mine looks a bit sorry for itself at the moment which has spurred my decision! I want soft amd shiny hair toooo! X

Yeah that’s the one! I’ve only used it a couple of times but it seems fairly good.
I’d say my hair is a lot healthier, although that is partly due to having had so much cut off, but having it shorter means I straighten it more and I haven’t noticed it looking too bad. But I always use hair oil after each wash and that’s such a life saver for my hair! It makes it softer, shinier, easier to brush and is full of goodness to help so I really cannot live without it.
My colour is looking sooo much better and my hair in general too since switching so I do think it’s worth the few weeks of bad hair I had in the adjustment period 😊 x

Haha sorry for all the questions! I read too some oils contain a lot of silicones, but theres some that are free of them too.
Its a bit scary changing my WHOLE hair care regime – i even noticed tpday my vo5 heat defence spray has silicone and sulphates! – but its sounds like the leap is worth taking :) x

Atm I’m using the loreal mythic oil that came in one of my Glossyboxes. It has argan, grapeseed and other oils in it and it’s just amazing! You can get a bottle online for £13 which is pretty good. Before that, I was using an argan oil from boots which is about the same price and also really good but I like the mix of oils in the mythic oil.
Really sulphites in a heat defence? That’s really bad. As they’re a cleanser they’re only meant to be in shampoos!

When you go to the hairdressers do you still let them use their products on your hair?
Their stuff must have a lot of sulphate / silicones in it, or would ask for a dry cut?
Maybe im looking into this a bit too much haha x

The oils are so worth it as you only need a couple of pumps so a bottle lasts for 6months if not longer! Plus the benefits are obvious straight away.
Nope I just dry cut. Aka show up with my hair wet having washed it at home. It’s cheaper so I was doing it before I switched but now I wouldn’t want them to use any old shampoo on it as I don’t know how that would affect the balance of my hair.
Haha nope not at all! My hair is like my own personal obsession. I’m far too attached to how it looks, bad hair makes me self conscious 😆 x

I never asked about getting it cut wet I just show up like it haha have done for years! My hairdresser says it’s easier to cut wet hair anyway so she doesn’t mind. But it could be worth asking because they might have products suitable for you!
