Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Hair Mask Review

Before we get started with what seems like my first product review in ages, I’d first of all like to say a big thank you to the lovely people who have responded so positively and given such helpful suggestions following yesterday’s post. I had a good night’s sleep and have woken up feeling much happier and more motivated. So thank you to the wonderful blogger community and my blogger friends for all your advice!

This is a product that you have probably seen me talk about on the blog before, although I haven’t yet done a proper review for it. I think the review is long overdue, as I have now finished this particular tub and purchased another one. That probably tells you a lot about how I feel about this hair mask!

The Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Diamond Color Intensive Mask sells for £5.49, although it is currently half price in Boots. Having said that, my local Boots has stopped stocking just the masks from the range, much to my annoyance. There is also a non-color version called Omega Repair Intensive Mask, which I haven’t tried. Both come in 200ml tubs and were developed with model Claudia Schiffer.

The mask has a very thick consistency and doesn’t have much of a scent to it. I do like how it smells, but I have no idea how to describe it. I do think there’s something quite reassuring about a product that doesn’t sell itself by scent, but by its effectiveness. Despite being thick the texture is actually quite creamy, so it spreads easily over the hair. This claims to be effective in just 1 minute, but I usually put it on and then shave/wash so I have it on for more like 5-10mins.  This really helps to soften and relax my hair, making it feel softer and healthier. Plus I do think it helps to seal in my colour as it claims.

The biggest claim it makes, is that it gives up to 98% less hair breakage and less split ends. When I first bought this, back in August, I was struggling with breakage and split ends from over bleaching my hair. I have had a lot of hair cut off and had regular cuts since, but I still think that this mask has helped a lot. To avoid cutting my hair too short and becoming unmanageable, I had about 10inches off in 3 different visits to the hair dresser, 6 weeks apart. And that’s just off the length – I had even more off my top layers as they were the worst damaged. And yet, my hair never went above my shoulders, despite having started at bra length and I thank this mask for that.

Once I started using this, I noticed that my hair grew back quicker and that there were less split ends and less hair coming out with each cut. I know this is partly because I had a lot of the damaged hair removed, but nothing is going to stick your split ends back together, so they need to be cut out. This however is so nourishing that I really do think it has helped my hair to grow back so quickly between each cut, as well as prevent further breakage.

I use this hair mask once a week and I can really see the difference in the days I use it compared to the days I don’t. This truly has been a worthwhile buy for me, so much so that when my first tub ran out, I bought a second full price in Sainsburys when I was unable to find it in Boots. I don’t regret that, because it’s well worth £5.49, as one tub has lasted me a few months and made such a big difference to my hair. I no longer buy Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, as I think that this mask is so much better. I am tempted to go so far as to call it a holy grail hair care product. If you see it on offer in Boots, grab it whilst its half price! It’s so good, I doubt you’ll regret it!

Have you tried this product? What are your miracle hair products?
